Japanese Acupuncture promotes natural healing by correcting imbalances and restoring harmony in your face and body. It uses a more delicate needling technique than traditional Chinese acupuncture as the needle is thinner and the depth of insertion is controlled making the treatment pain free.
Japanese Acupuncture follows the beliefs that your life energy (Ki) runs through a system of channels(meridians) which link all physiology functions and that the smooth flow of this is essential for maintaining good physical & mental health.
Medical conditions which have been stated by the WHO to be treated by Japanese Acupuncture include:
• Anxiety & depression
• PMS & menopausal symptoms
• Vertigo & Meniere’s disease
• Headaches & migraines
• Respiratory disorders (bronchitis, asthma, sinusitis)
• Gastrointestinal disorders (IBS, acid reflux, ulcerative colitis)
• Post-operative pain

Acupuncture was brought to Japan from china in the 6th century by a monk, Chiso. Over the next 1,200 years acupuncture was an important facet of public health in Japan as the exchange of knowledge with china was active. In the 1600’s when the government decided to close the country, Japan cut off exchange with foreign countries for over 200 years.
In this time acupuncture filtered into the everyday lives of people and the isolation caused unique developments in the therapy. As Holland was the only country allowed to maintain trade with Japan Western medicine started to impact Japanese medicine and through this open trade Japanese Acupuncture was introduced to Europe.
Scientific studies suggest a clinical use of acupuncture now for over a millennium.
At your first consultation the practitioner will establish the meridians that need to be rebalanced through questioning and pulse taking. The finest needles are then used to penetrate the surface of the skin and herbs used where necessary to activate the Ki. It’s a relaxing and pleasant treatment.
Every individual is different and will respond to the treatment at a different rate however we always recommend a course of treatments rather than a one off.

No, the treatment is pain free due to the very fine needles which are used and most people find it very relaxing.
This very much depends on the medical conditions you are seeking treatment for and how you respond to the treatment. This can be advised by your practitioner.
Appointments are usually suggested a week apart however in very acute cases they may be suggested for every 2/3 days.
Side effects which may occur are minor discomfort or irritation to the skin from the needles and in rare cases symptoms may get worse before they get better.
Unfortunately, we do not recommend acupuncture to those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
