HISTORY

The consequences of environmental exposure and the normal processes of ageing lead to excessive free radical damage resulting in the breakdown of collagen and elastin networks in the dermis and producing premature ageing. This same type of damage eventually impairs growth factor function, so they are less able to repair oxidative damage, and the damage becomes permanent.

Growth factors are proteins naturally produced by the body that promote the growth, organization and maintenance of cells and tissues.

In multiple clinical studies, topically applied growth factors have been shown to reduce the signs of skin aging, including statistically significant reductions in fine lines and wrinkles and increases in dermal collagen synthesis. Your practitioner will discuss with you the most suitable treatment plan taking into consideration your concerns, recovery time and goals for the treatment. The skin is then cleansed to remove any make-up or impurities from the surface of the skin. Before the procedure a topical anaesthetic cream is applied over the entire surface area which is left on for 20 minutes. The anaesthetic cream is then removed with antiseptic to ensure that the skin is clean and ready for the microneedling treatment. A growth factor serum is then added to the skin and microneedling treatment is performed. Following the procedure, the final step is the application of sun screen protection. Most clients experience little to no pain throughout the whole process.

After the treatment, the skin will look red, like a mild sunburn, and slightly inflamed.

Growth factor induced therapy is an ideal treatment for those suffering with acne, to prevent ageing, reduce hyperpigmentation, scars and stretch marks and as an overall skin rejuvenation.

We use AQ Skin Solutions Growth factors that are sourced from a screened and immortalized fibroblast cell line. Fibroblasts are the best source of growth factors because they are key cells in wound healing.

Because growth factors act in a very selective lock and key manner, plant derived growth factors are completely ineffective for regulating cellular activity within human cells as human skin is not comprised of plant cells.

All procedures of the skin have associated risks and complications. Risks involve both, items that specifically relate to the use of growth factors as a form of therapy and to the microneedling procedure and this may include bleeding, bruising, infection, scarring, and pigment problems. The most common side effect is minor skin irritation immediately following the procedure and you may also see redness for a few days. Please inform your practitioner immediately if any adverse reactions may occur.

Microneedling treatment is carried out in highly clinical, sterilised environment  by highly qualified senior practitioners and doctors, which follow strict medical protocols so you can be reassured that the procedures are very safe.

You may not be an ideal candidate for this treatment if you:

  • Have a history of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • If you have been taking Roaccutane within the past 6 months
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Suffer with eczema, psoriasis or other chronic conditions
  • Have open wounds or sores
  • Have had radiation therapy recently
  • Have active acne or rosacea
  • Taking anticoagulants
  • If you are allergic to any of the ingredients used in the topical preparations

A topical numbing cream is applied to the area before carrying out microneedling treatments to ensure that any pain is minimised. Clients will describe it as a minimal discomfort.

Before the procedure, you may need to stop taking certain medications, such as ibuprofen and those for acne treatment, well in advance of the procedure. Your practitioner may also recommend that you stop using topical retinoids beforehand too. Doing so may reduce the risk of certain side effects.

With the microneedling procedure most people require very little downtime, if any at all. You may notice skin irritation and redness within the first few days following the procedure. This is a natural response to the small injuries made by the needles in your skin. You can go back to your usual activities after the procedure if you feel comfortable to do so. Your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun, so ensure you apply sunscreen every day.

While some results may be almost immediate, best results usually won’t be visible until four to six weeks after the procedure. As soon as the micro-wounds are created within the skin, the body’s wound healing processes respond to heal them. This means collagen production is accelerated, along with cellular turnover.

The skin preparation, number of treatments required and maintenance care following GFIT treatment differs depending on skin type and condition. Your practitioner will discuss your individual treatment needs with you at your consultation. A course of 4-6 treatments is usually suggested every 4 weeks apart.
