HISTORY

Microneedling has been around for decades and has been advancing with the times becoming a mainstream procedure for many aesthetic practitioners.

Medical microneedling has been widely used in aesthetic medicine for many years and the first recorded use was in 1905. A German dermatologist, called Ernst Kromayer, first reported controlled resurfacing of the skin and his technique involved the use of rotating wheels and rasps, which were used to treat acne scars, birthmarks and areas of hyperpigmentation.

By 1995, a new technique was discovered by Dr Desmond Fernandes for the treatment of wrinkles and scars with the use of hypodermic needles and also developed a small needle stamp to induce collagen production, which later led to the development of our modern microneedling devices.

Skin needling techniques have become internationally recognized as the safest, most effective way of treating lax skin, wrinkles, scars and stretch marks.

process

An initial consultation with you and your therapist will determine your skin concerns and goals. Your practitioner will discuss with you the most suitable treatment plan taking into consideration your concerns, recovery time and goals for the treatment.

The skin is then thoroughly cleansed to remove any make-up or impurities from the surface of the skin. Dr. Levy Radical3 Reboot Pro Peel is applied to the skin to deeply exfoliate and prepare the skin for the microneedling therapy, followed by Intense Stem Cell Serum to nourish the skin, reduce signs of ageing, and to improve skin firmness and radiance.

Before the microneedling procedure, a topical anaesthetic cream is applied over the entire surface area which is left on for 20 minutes. The anaesthetic cream is then removed with antiseptic to ensure that the skin is clean and ready for the microneedling treatment. A serum is then added to the skin as a lubricant to help the needles glide. The serum aims to reduce post-treatment redness and helps for a quicker recovery.

FAQ

Radical collagen transformation uses microneedling therapy and Dr. Levy stem cells cosmeceuticals to treat and improve conditions such as uneven pigmentation, acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture and pore size.

Dr. Levy skincare is a plant-derived stem cell booster combined with a highly concentrated cocktail of vitamins, peptides and antioxidants to correct and protect against all signs of skin ageing.

Microneedling causes micro-injuries which stimulates your body’s natural wound healing process and causes the skin to boost new collagen production.

You may not be an ideal candidate for this treatment if you:

  • Have a history of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • If you have been taking Roaccutane within the past 6 months
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Suffer with eczema, psoriasis or other chronic conditions
  • Have open wounds or sores
  • Have had radiation therapy recently
  • Have active acne or rosacea
  • Taking anticoagulants

A topical numbing cream is applied to the area before carrying out microneedling treatments to ensure that any pain is minimised. Most clients describe it as a minimal discomfort.

Before the procedure, you may need to stop taking certain medications, such as ibuprofen and those for acne treatment, well in advance of the procedure. Your practitioner may also recommend that you stop using topical retinoids beforehand too. Doing so may reduce the risk of certain side effects.

While some results may be almost immediate, best results usually won’t be visible until four to six weeks after the procedure. As soon as the micro-wounds are created within the skin, the body’s wound healing processes respond to heal them. This means collagen production is accelerated, along with cellular turnover.

Most people require very little downtime, if any at all. You may notice skin irritation and redness within the first few days following the procedure. This is a natural response to the small injuries made by the needles in your skin. You can go back to your usual activities after the procedure if you feel comfortable to do so. Your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun, so ensure you apply sunscreen every day.

The skin preparation, number of treatments required and maintenance care following Radical collagen transformation treatment differs depending on skin type and condition. Your practitioner will discuss your individual treatment needs with you at your consultation. A course of 4-6 treatments is usually suggested every 4 weeks apart.
